Located in a coastal Maine subdivision this cottage style residence is designed to fit within a very constrained sloping site while taking advantage of distant ocean views. The biggest challenge to overcome was solving for access to the property while maintaining the desired sight lines to the views beyond as both share the same approaching side. The solution was to create a drive under two car garage with the Great Room of the main level above oriented toward the view.
In fact the Great Room, Kitchen, and main level Master Suite all take advantage of the distant ocean views. Two secondary bed rooms on the upper level also look toward this view as well. Aesthetically we designed the upper level to be contained within the roof line with flanking shed dormers and included a wrap around porch to achieve the cottage style appeal desired by our clients. The style is further enhanced with white cedar shingles, accent shingled areas, playful window combinations and a stone clad chimney.
