As a classic turn of the century Shingle Style estate in need of repair, modern updating, and expansion our approach was to match or maintain a similar level of detail in keeping with the original house. Where new additions were introduced we were careful to design them so that they would appear to be part of the original structure.
Carrying a consistent palette of detail helps to strengthen the ties between existing and new. The exterior renovation and additions included all new siding, trim, doors, windows and natural stone in selected areas. The interior saw various degrees of renovation to each space including trim, moldings and doors meant to match the original.
The focal point of the first floor is a completely redone and modernized kitchen including a sizeable breakfast area contained in an angled bay wrapped with windows.
A new connector with support functions and three car garage designed in a carriage house motif anchors the north side of the house.
An elaborate master suite on the second floor contained partly in another angled bay creates the anchor on the south side.
Distant views of the ocean are visible from most rooms. Existing attic space was designed to accommodate a focal point sitting room and additional guest rooms.
