Fort Lane

Originally designed and built with an odd configuration of spaces that did not function well nor take advantage of distant ocean front views our clients challenged us to improve it. The exterior aesthetics of the house were also outdated, unappealing and need of a refresh. We proposed a complete reorganization of each level to improve upon the deficiencies of the existing house. Our immediate suggestion was to remove the center chimney and stair which were impediments to the existing flow. By removing and relocating these elements we were able to open up each floor. This was especially important on the main level because it allowed us to create a large open vaulted space which became the great room. Anchoring one end of this space with a new modernized kitchen and the other with a stone fireplace completely transforms the space from what it originally was. In support of these spaces we vastly improved the existing back entry, bathroom and laundry areas. Behind the new stone fireplace we relocated the stair which provides quick access to the lower level bedrooms and main entrance.

A completely redesigned Master Suite along with a small office lies to the side of the new stair. The Master now allows views to the water and includes a much larger closet and significantly upgraded Master bathroom. The bed rooms on the lower level were updated to be more welcoming and comfortable for guests. The exterior was improved with the addition of all new windows, siding and trim. The existing waterfront deck was rebuilt and enlarged to provide different entertaining options. New landscaping ties everything together nicely.
