The Boulders

This contemporary vacation home seamlessly blends into its natural surroundings thru careful siting and use of materials. To emphasize its connection to the site our plan is broken up into half levels ensuring a gradual transition from one zone to another. This strategy enabled us to have a comfortable relationship between interior and exterior elements making the house appear to fit the site like a glove. Our goal was to minimize any disturbance of the site and we enhanced it with the development of exterior stone terraces which also step with the various levels of the house.

The use of natural stone and cedar shingles on the exterior warmly relates to the natural surroundings. The main interior focal point spaces are arranged to take full advantage of the spectacular lake views and are enhanced with an abundance of windows, natural fir wood and a stone chimney.
