Located on a picturesque property with sweeping ocean views we were tasked with designing a 6,500 s.f. classic Maine Shingle Style residence. Our client presented us with a photo taken from a turn of the century architecture book and said " This is what we want our house to look like". We used the photo as inspiration to begin our design explorations. The resulting ocean facing elevation is very close to the photo. The house maintains classic lines, detail, and proportions which exemplified the aesthetic of houses built on the Maine coast in the late 1,800's- early 1,900's. The interior is a mix of traditional and contemporary spaces. We created a welcoming entry porch which draws guests into the house. Once inside a gracious entry hall with a beautiful stair sets the tone and directs people into the Great Room just ahead. From the Entry Hall the ocean view is immediately apparent. The Great Room is designed to accommodate living and dining and contains two opposing fireplaces.
The size of the room was determined by two existing oriental rugs. A large Kitchen with it's own informal seating space fronting the view anchors one end of the house.
A large Screen Porch with it's own fireplace anchors the opposite end of the house. A beautiful sitting porch ties the house together on the water side. This porch becomes a favorite place to relax, read a book and enjoy the tranquil views. Completing the first floor is a formal Study, support spaces, elevator and garage. The second floor contains the Master Suite which is positioned above the kitchen below. In addition there are several guest en-suites and an office located over the garage.
The craftsmanship of Chase Construction brings all of our efforts to life.
