This building was originally used as a veterinary clinic on the main level with residential apartments above. Working together with a repeat client we re-imagined it as a contemporary version of Craftsman Style with an open floor plan and playful exterior textures.
The biggest challenge was creatively solving for the interior spatial requirements. The footprint of the existing building was very small and our clients were used to larger spaces in their previous residence.
To address this challenge we created a series of cozy open spaces that are visually connected and enhanced them with tall ceilings and windows. An open stair connects the three levels of the house and brings the outdoor environment in thru a series of stepped windows.
The playfulness of the exterior is emphasized with new cedar shingles, trim, windows and accent areas of vertical boards.
