This year round lakeside residence replaces an old camp occupying its original footprint. Designed as a shingle style cottage it was important to blend the new house in with the natural surroundings of the site while taking full advantage of the beautiful lakefront views. A steep slope from front to back enabled a walkout basement to be developed which is used primarily as a recreation room. The main level is configured as an open floor plan allowing the Living, Dining and Kitchen areas to freely flow together opening directly to views of the lake.
A quiet sitting room which doubles as a guest suite completes the first floor. The upper level is dedicated solely as the Master Suite and includes a small office alcove and lookout space with views on all sides. We carefully strategized the imagery and roof lines to be playful and non-imposing on the sloping site. Deep overhanging eaves creating strong shadow lines are a signature strategy in lessening the structures impact and helping to ground it to the site. An earth tone color scheme further relates the house to its natural surroundings.
